Today is August 31st...duh, you all know that. August 31st means that summer is coming to a close. I think everyone says the same thing on this day....Where did summer go?
To say this summer was anticipated would be quite an understatement. I knew that at the end of summer, I would get to meet my son. I remember looking at that plastic stick in December, saying "Holy Shit! I can't believe I have to wait until September!" And now September is tomorrow. I crossed off each day on my calendar like it was some sort of competition waiting for this moment, and now that it is here, I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it. Only 15 days (give or take :)) until my world changes forever.
That's some heavy stuff, wrap your dome around that one for a minute. Forreeevvver....Foreeeevvverrrr.....Foreeevvver (Think Sandlot)!
Looking back on the past 92 days, I still can't get over how fast they went. I should have never wished for time to speed up, because I am pretty sure someone hit the fast forward button, and now they have put these last couple days into slow motion.
This summer has been filled with doctor appointments, weddings, trips to the cabin, baby showers, weekends in TRF, lots of housework, swollen ankles, a whole week of vacation on the lake, aimless drives to small towns, and lots and lots of prepping for baby boy Dube. To be perfectly lame and cliche'...Summer went by way too fast.
Doesn't it always though? You wait 9 months to begin to work on your tan, and you only get 3 short months to perfect it. Than September comes and your tan fades away just like the green in the leaves on the trees. The long summer days get shorter and shorter. The nights get cooler. The air gets crisper. Before you know it summer fades into fall, the Vikings wrap up yet another losing season, and your stuck in traffic smack dab on 94E because of the 3rd blizzard to hit by December 15. You purchase a tanning package to get you through the December to March, spring hits and your watching the Twins home opener on TV. April, May..and than BLAM Memorial Weekend!! Than June comes and you have every weekend booked with things to do and people to see. Pretty soon your enjoying your last few days of summer by shoving your face full of deep fried heaven on a stick at the Minnesota State Fair.
This is my yearly dilemma. Summer you are nothing but a giant tease!
My life in a cube. My life as a wife. My life as a Dube. My life as a dog owner. My life as a daughter. My life as sister. And my newest adventure, my life as a mother.

Hot hot hot
July has been hot. Hot and humid. This really bums me out because I love nothing more than sitting on my deck with an icy cold beverage, soaking up the sun and sweating my little heart out...but now with baby on board the sweating has gone to a whole new level and getting that hot makes me sick. Boo is all I have to say. I love hot weather. The hotter the better, I'll take it with humidity or without. I could lay out in the sun for hours, with the occasional trips to the house to soak up some good old fashioned air conditioning and check out my tan lines. If I am out on the lake, even better. Bring it on Mr. Sun.
So this summer has been a bitter sweet one for me. I try my hardest to lay out, but my upper lip starts to sweat before I can even get my suntan lotion on (nothing higher than SPF 8 of course :)), so I am inside cooling off more than I would like to be. I am however, banking in quite a bit of sleep. I think my body is storing it up, because it knows in just 7 short weeks, there won't be much of it happening. That's what I tell myself to justify the fact that I could close my eyes anytime and anywhere for just 5 minutes and be out like a light. But, many will claim I have always been like that...it's nothing but lies and fairytales!
Two weeks ago Patrick and I went to Moondance Jam in the bright and shining city of Walker. It was fun, but of course it was not the same. It's amazing how self conscience I felt walking around pregnant. Did that girl just look at me funny? Did he just stare at my belly? What was that look for? People would look at me as we would cross paths and then their gaze would inevitably drift down to my bump. They were either thinking "What the hell is she doing here?" or ..."what the hell is she doing here?!" I couldn't get myself to walk through a crowd, maybe because I was scared of being pushed or bumped into or maybe it was because I didn't want to deal with the eyes. I was seriously shocked. This was Moondance...the place was filled with gypsies, bikers, hippies, locals, local weekenders, freaks and geeks, hot moms, muscle men, groupies and wanna-be rock stars. For godsakes, there was a very large man with his face painted like Gene Simmons and giant black stars painted over his even larger man boobs!! How could I, of all people, be getting weird looks? It just didn't make sense. Every bit of stubborness came out of me and I said, "Eff it!" I'm a jammer after all. I don't give a flying f what these weirdos think...I am hear to see epic shows and hang with my favorite people. So I stiffened my upper lip, and pushed my way through the crowd. I had to see KISS on Friday night...the show they put on was AMAZING. I only could pick out 2 or 3 of their songs, but they threw a bad ass performance. Fireworks, flames, lifts that took them 30 feet in the air, smashing guitars, spitting fire...it was wild. Saturday night, we went in to see Joan Jett, and she not only looked smoking hot, so was her show! That chick has a body that all women would kill for...and she rocked her whole show in a leather corset and leather pants...she is a bad ass bitch.
The best part of Moondance was the fact that when my son gets older, I can tell him that his first concert was when his mom was 31 weeks pregnant. She may not have danced as much, she may not have run around as much, she may not have stayed out as late, but dammit she was there.

Reflections and Confessions...of a Dube.
Well, hello blog. It's been awhile.
I have some confessing to do:
1. I am wearing size 8 flip flops today. I normally wear a size 7-7.5. Yes, they are too big but I have convinced myself that no one will notice. You only notice when someone is wearing shoes that are too small because of the horrifying look of excess toe cleavage.
2. I am wearing my first true "maternity" shirt. It says it on the label even, you know, just in case you FORGOT you body was expanding at an alarming rate. I could get use to this type of wardrobe, its extremely comfortable when most of my daily living activities are not. So I will take comfort where I can get it.
3. Lately, I am lucky if I can keep my eyes open past 7:30pm. What happened to me? I have always enjoyed my sleep and a good nap, but now I feel like a zombie right after dinner. I know it can all be chalked up to pregnancy and I should get my sleep in while I can...but C'MOOOON....this is getting ridiculous!
Oofda...I feel much better now.
Last night I went to dinner with some friends, some of whom I haven't seen in quite a long time. It was great. We sat down in the booth and talked like we haven't been apart. We just picked right up where we left off. The conversations have shifted now, Where are you working? How do you like your job? Traffic sucks. Babies. Relationships. I loved every minute of it. I could have stayed there for hours. It really made me miss the days of sleepovers when everyone would stay up until the sun came up talking about everything and everyone, playing the dumbest games (Judge Judy, Light as a Feather Stiff as Board, Truth or Dare just to name some of the more embarrassing ones), turning the music way up and dancing like fools, watching movies, eating everything in the house and drinking way too many sugary carbonated beverages.
But we have grown up now and we have come into our own lives.
As I was driving home last night, I began to think about how much I missed my friends. I miss hanging out with these girls that I have known since I was ten years old. Have I drifted from them? Have they drifted from me? Is this how life is supposed to go where you bounce in and out of each others lives every couple of years, just checking in? I don't know. I don't know even know why I started thinking so far into this dinner date. I am not usually an over-analyzer of things, I try to take things as is, but this drive home was different. Is this just my raging pregnancy hormones taking over? They always come in handy for a good excuse. Life has taken us all down different paths, but here we are almost 15 years later after meeting, sitting down and sharing story after story. It's beautiful isn't it? Wow, these hormones sure do make a person cheesy.
I got home around 10:30pm, the Murph-man was waiting for me at the top of the stairs with his favorite toy in his mouth, wagging his tail, eyes still glazed over from sleeping, than he and his toy made their way back to bed. I was not far behind him. My husband was on the couch, "not sleeping" just "watching tv." Sure you were. After locking all the doors, and shutting the house down, he joined me and Murphy too. After a long day at work, dinner with the girls, here I am surrounded by my world. My husband, my dog, my baby boy, and my favorite piece of furniture in the house, my bed. With Murph and my husband quickly snoring, I couldn't help but smile. I love my life. I love this. I am more happy now than I ever have been. And with a swift kick to the ribs, I think my baby boy agreed.

Bangs Shmangs
Sooooooooooooo I got bangs at the beginning of December. I needed something different, something fresh, something I had never done before...and without consulting any other opinions....I DID IT. Just like that. Done. Cut. Snipped.
I know it may not seem like a big deal to others, but bangs are a pretty heavy commitment. More commitment than a spray tan, a nail polish color or a new mascara. But less commitment than a full hair color change, or a new wardrobe. It takes months to grow them out, and in those months your in the "awkward" stage, where for the majority of their lives, your bangs will reside in a bobby pin or hidden behind a headband.
So I sit down in the chair and ask for my typical trim and blond highlights...at the last minute I decide to change it up..."Throw some really dark low lights around the bottom." Wooow Danielle....so brave! As she is trimming my hair..."I say...what about bangs?" STUPID! She said,"Wanna do it?" Was that a devilish grin on her face? I couldn't tell.
AND this is the exact moment I got in trouble..."Sure, why not," I said.
Sure why not?
SURE. WHY. NOT.?!
So she begins to pull them forward, and snip away....hooooollllyyyyyy crap. What did I just agree to? All I can think is..."Pat is gonna kill me...Pat is gonna kill me...." She finishes, gives me a much needed blow out, and there I am. Me and my bangs.
I got banged!
She loves it, everyone there loves it. But me....I need more convincing. I look in the mirror, and see nothing but bangs. I tilt my head to the side, I think..."hey, I can pull this off, I look hip, I look sophisticated....I look...I look......
I LOOK LIKE MY MOTHER!!
There she is, staring back at me...my mother! I have heard it a million times throughout my life, how much I look like her...but at this very moment in that swivel chair at the salon....I truly looked like my mom. Shit.
I pay for the cut and color, run out to my car and quickly begin to have a self photo session with my cell phone. I take pics smiling, not smiling, at an angle, in the light, in the dark but with every picture, she won't go away. Her eyes are gleaming at me, her smile is whispering..."I told you, you looked like me!" "AGGGGGH!" I screamed, and threw my phone down. Enough. It is what it is. There was no turning back now.
It has been almost 8 weeks of living with these bangs, and I have to say they are not all bad. Pat got used to them. My co-workers love them. My mom keeps telling me to poof them up more. I have grown to enjoy them. But I have gotten them out of my system. I can at least say I did it, so in the future I can always reference back to those moments with bangs to prevent impromptu decisions like that from ever being made again.

Hasta La Vista 2010
2010 was a great year for the Dube household.
Murphy (aka Smurphy, Smurph, Murph, Boogie Man, Little Boy, Ding Ding Do Do Head, Ding Ding, Baby Ding Ding, Smurphy Smurph and the Smurphs) got a little bigger, and got a little older.
Patrick's hair got longer, got shorter, and is now creeping its way to his shoulders again.
We pulled off yet another surprise party. We successfully spent almost every summer weekend at Leech Lake. We painted the deck. Patrick finally finished our bathroom. We bought a big screen tv. We finally got a new vehicle. We spent a lot of time with family. I got a new job. We celebrated our one year anniversary by eating Chinese food and watching movies all day. I have became heavily addicted to coffee., while Patrick has stayed tried and true to his beloved Diet Coke.
I learned what its like to have a real friend. The kind that will grab your hand and go over the edge of a cliff with you. The type of friend who absolutely loves you even with all your faults, and flaws and weird little quirks, if fact, they love your more because they can see right through them.
I learned that when all else fails, you will always have your family. They are there to tell you to get back up and keep going, and to share in all your joys and sadness. They are the dependent variable in your science experiment other wise known as life. From my immediate to my extended, from the boring ones to the "crazy" ones...I live and die for them.
Do we have plans for 2011, sure who doesn't? But they are pretty simple. We want to tile our kitchen, maybe redo our basement. Put in some landscaping. Maybe get a new puppy? (that's me anyway....yes I am a crazy dog lady and am not ashamed to admit it). Take a week of vacation in July and spend it at Leech Lake where we do nothing but stay up all night and lay on the boat all day.
Our simple little dreams for our simple little life.
2010 was a good year. A great year. I wouldn't take back a single moment, a single memory.

She's country
Wow...why didn't someone tell me it has almost been a month since my last blog? You clearly do not miss the random thoughts that pour out of this big ol' brain of mine.
Did anyone watch the CMA's last night? Well I did, and yes I am going to talk about them, so hold on to your belt buckles.
A cute little southern friend of mine and I were texting back and forth about the CMA's, and going back and reading them this morning I realized its a pretty accurate recap of what happened. So I am going to sum it up for you.
1. Although I love Sugarland, she creeped me out last night. Her hair was too short, their performance was to "cutesy" and the white leggings were a bad choice. It made me feel awkward.
2. All I wanted was Jason Aldeen to come out in some extremely tight jeans and put on a rock and roll type show with lights, smoke, guitars and lots of sweating. What did he do? Snuggled up to Kelly Clarkson and her booty...dammmn girl, where did that booty come from?! It was a let down.
3. Miranda...killed it! She jumped around like a maniac in 6 inch heels during her performance, and won almost every thing. And she is engaged to Blake Shelton. She is a winner all around in my book.
4. Kid Rock was my guilty pleasure of the night. He definitely raided Bo Cephus's closet for his get-up. But Hank is a legend so it worked.
5. I loved Brad Paisley's performance. He is an amazing guitarist. I am so happy he won Entertainer of the Year...he cried! Kind of looked like a tool but a cute tool.
6. I wish I had a reason to wear Cinderella gowns like Carrie Underwood.
7. I had a solo dance party when Dierks sang "Up on the Ridge." That song is so underplayed, and that's a bold statement in this day and age.
So after a country music filled night, I have decided I would love to move to Nashville. And here is my life plan...
Patrick will become an underground sensation at all of the local country bars. He will sing with bands all over Nashville and I will spend all my nights dancing by the light of the neon moon. (Music Trivia: Who sings that song?) My days will be filled with working at a horse ranch just outside of Nashville, cleaning stalls, riding and washing down horses. I will only wear plaid shirts, and giant white cowboy hats, and black cowboy boots. Oh, and jeans, because although it would be hot to only wear a shirt, hat and boots, it might get uncomfortable while riding.
After a long day of working on the farm, Pat and I will go drive into town to go to MJP's concert. We of course get ushered right back stage and while Pat goes to sound check to sing as a back up singer, I go find the dancer, and change into their costume. Oh did I forget to mention? MJP is a multi million dollar country music star and Pat sings back up for her when she is in town, and I am a backup dancer. George Strait, Jason Aldeen, and Blake and Miranda would know Patrick and I as "the Dube's" and we would invite them over to our garage to play beer pong every Friday night....
It could happen. I want Nashville. I want the southern twaaaang.

and the times they are a changginnn....
Ok, this is it. I am putting it out there for all of you to read (or just for myself to read because lets be honest, who reads this anyway) I am making a change. There I said it. Now that my proclamation of change has been announced in the virtual world, I have to do it. Right?
Change is a good thing, its hard, I never quite seem to understand it, but change is what makes life move. So I am told anyways. I think you can chalk that last sentence up to be something that "they" would say.
I WILL make a change.
I am sure by now you are dying to know what this "change" is. Join the club pally. I don't even know what it is, I just know that some sort of change needs to happen in my life.
Don't you ever get to a point in your life where you crave change? It can be the simplest thing from switching from 2% milk to 1%, walking the stairs instead of taking the elevator, a new hair color, a new style, changing your attitude about something or someone, brushing your teeth before you get in the shower instead of after...I don't know, something....anything.
Changing something doesn't mean your unhappy with it, it simply means you are ready for something new or different. I feel like when you start to get the itch that a change is needed, its your mind telling you, "go ahead little one...jump."
Jump into something you have never done before. Jump into something you have always wanted to do. Jump into something you HATE doing. Jump higher, jump faster, jump longer, jump like you never have before and see how it feels. Jump into it, whatever it may be, with no regrets, no holding back, no caution.
So here I go, eyes closed, nose plugged, I am jumping.
Change is a good thing, its hard, I never quite seem to understand it, but change is what makes life move. So I am told anyways. I think you can chalk that last sentence up to be something that "they" would say.
I WILL make a change.
